When I first got engaged it felt weird for me too. So I called him partner. It is strange, as it is a change. Try to slowly introduce the word and eventually it will stick, in fact my fiance caught on to calling me fiancee straight away, even my dad and his family picked it up straight away. oh and we have nick names too, effius, F, and beyonce, congrats on ur engagement!!
Those people may not be brainwashed at all, however their surroundings are still being controlled the country they are in could? become more or less poor depending on these people which would effect everything around them whether it is hunting or bartering.

Personally I think one of the biggest and most important hurdles to overcome is the date of the wedding. Planning is very hard unless you know when you want to get marred & once you have a time scale you can break the months/weeks (whatever) down into manegable pieces.
For example if you were to get married in 6 months I would recommend the most important things are to plan a budget and then book ceremony and reception venue, book photographer/videographer,look at dresses. This way you have a place to get married something to wear and someone to capture the memories. Obviously there are many many more factors to a wedding but those are a few big ones to tick off the list and lighten your stress.
Find a wedding checklist you like and stick to it or you could read 2 or 3 and then compile your own based on what you feel is important. For example I wouldnt have a bridal shower and I dont want posh transport so these dont need to be on my list.
Stay calm and break things down, get yourself a notebook and get really creative and just enjoy it
