I'm sorry but Taylor and Martin use high quality wood, bracing, and preamps in their guitars and it sounds great on both picking and strumming.
Do you think Taylor can sell a $1,500 guitar that is only going to sound good for finger picking?
That's ridiculous.
Any Taylor or Martin (not the mini martin or baby taylor) is going to sound great for both.
Takamine are good mid level guitars. They aren't so much in the high end ($2,000 or higher) but for the $600-$1,500 range they are solid. The good thing about Takamine guitars is they use Fishman Preamps, so they are awesome when plugged in.
Takamine guitars sound good strummed or picked as well. They have very rich lows.
My personal preference is Taylor, Gibson, Takamine, Martin, and Ovation. In that order.
Good Snag on the PRS Custom. PRS makes great electric guitars.
You didn't list a price range, so here's a few suggestions:
Taylor 312 CE – $1,600
I own this one. So I have to recommend it. I love it. It's a great guitar. Beautiful sound all around. Picking or Strumming. Plugged in or Acoustic. It's awesome.
Gibson Songmaker – $1,300
I jammed on this in a store about a month ago. It sounded great too. I didn't like the body as much as I liked the Taylor, but that's personal prefernce. I didn't find the highs on this one to be as rich as the ones on the Taylor, but again this might be personal preference. Great guitar though. I'd own it in a heartbeat.
Takamine EF360SC – $1,300
My buddy has this one. I like it plugged in. Acoustic I don't think it holds with the Gibson or Taylor. But plugged in it's just as good. Those Fishman Preamps can do some damage, that's for sure.
I didn't know a price range, so feel free to email if you have any questions, or if you can afford more in the $2,000 price range. There are some sweet Gibsons and Taylors and Takamines in that range as well. I tried to stay in the middle ground up above.
Also I can't recommend Sweetwater enough when ordering a guitar. They give a 55 point inspection before shipping it out. Plus they will "setup" your guitar (lower the action) for free before sending out. And the shipping is free! Good Luck.
