I need creative ideas for a fun low cost small wedding.?

by admin on March 6, 2010

Right now I am thinking a beach wedding with blanket seating and a bonfire at the reception. Know of any great possibly free beaches on the east coast that would allow a bonfire? Any charming seating suggestions for grandparents? I am looking for yummy food that can be cooked in the fire. We are a fun quirky couple looking for something memorable, meaningful and intimate. Our guests will not be expecting the norm from us and we do not feel obligated to expensive traditions. THE BEACH IS NOT A MUST…I WOULD LOVE ANY CREATIVE AND INEXPENSIVE SUGGESTIONS, ESPECIALLY LOCATIONS OR VENUES (ANYWHERE). Oh did I mention we would like to get married in only 4 months.

Well, what I would do is look at your local city and county websites. You can research to see if a beach is available for you to have a bonfire. You can also research some of the cities rental facilities. You may be able to rent a park or a hall for a fairly good price.
The beach sounds like a nice idea, but you mentioned grandparents. I am not sure what age they are or how their health is, but if the beach is a long walk or they have problems getting around I would suggest another venue. It is also nice in that situation to have tables of some sort for your guests. It makes it easier to eat and prepare the food.
For food you can do some bbq chicken and tri-tip roast…you could also have baked potatoes, roasted vegetables, macaroni salad, rolls, green salad, fruit sald, etc.
There are lots of fun ideas…but first get your location all set up, then you can go into all the details.

The beach idea sounds really fun! I live on the west coast so im not familar with east coast beaches….
for seating for older folks and possible handcap guests have seats available, like a few beach chairs that can be decorated. Or even a driftwood log that may have washed up onto the shore.

as for foods….
You could make kabobs with grilled chicken, steak, or shrimp and have onions, bell peppers, pineapple, and tomato on them… Or you could do the hot dog hamburger thing. wrap a potato in foil and stick it on a skewer and make baked potatos then have all the fixings on a small portable tabel near by. Roast marshmellows and make smores. Have bags of chips and maybe some store bought dip like french onion or cheese and have that on a small table so they can snack before the grilling is done!

I would suggest maybe renting a beach house for a weekend. I know this sounds pricey but this could be the outlet for where you get ready, prepare the food, the place where everyone uses the restroom etc…. In the end I think it would be worth it. You sound like so much fun! If your grandparents were tired they could retire in the beach cottage. This would be an alternative outlet while all the festivities are happening outside.

Now I think your heart is set on the beach. I cannot think of any other place that is more romantic or fun to get married. Maybe my own regret of not having this venue is gleaming through this answer. Anyways as far as food I would keep it fresh and easy to maneuver on the sandy shoreline. Shish-kabobs are easy and people can grill them themselves. Instead of having cake do classic smores!

A bonfire is a definite most and if you are renting a cottage, the rules are less strict because it is a private beach and not public. It will be more secluded from the public eye. Good luck and congrats!

Congratulations! You may look for a state park with beach access or even a nice boardwalk…If you want to be married around a lot of sand, you will need to make it a little more casual especially if you want people to sit on the sand…Instead of a bonfire, you may want to get some of the metal fire pits and have them dispersed in a few different locations…you can’t fit everyone at the bonfire probably. Remember that the older folks may not be able to walk from the car to the location (I have trouble in the sand sometimes…lol)…as for food, that’s a tough one…sand and food…wind, sand and food…not sure. I have seen some wedding pics where they actually rent tables and white wooden chairs with a tent enclosure however you stated that you want to keep it low cost so…that’s out. Don’t know what to tell you except I wish you luck with your wedding and married life!

Hi. Where are you located? How far do you want to travel? Edit your question and I will try to help! By the way…it sounds fun!

Hi forestrat,

I wonder if there is an east-west difference in usage… Your point about California does make sense. There is, though, the song “East Coast Blues” by Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee, which has the line: “Well I woke up on the east coast, with the west coast on my mind.”

We do tend to say “coast” here rather than “shore,” although we might use “shore” for a more localized area it seems like…

Regards

What do you mean "Okie thing" ? Are you inferring that Oklahomans are cheap?

I was at the Viewpoint Bar on Saturday. Located across from the entrance to Welchman Hall Gully, it offer a most spectacular view over the east coast. I sat their for an hour, memerised by the view, and enjoying a few cold banks beers. As the south and west coasts are becoming developed to the point of saturation, we need to protect the east coast even more.

Hey hoss, sometimes you just have to accept that east coast people normally wind up back in the east coast. I think it has something to do with the seasons, getting use to their being a natural progression of change that inevitably and eventually takes us back to where we started…

…then again it could just be an online quiz with little basis in fact. Who knows.

Wow! When did Annette F. and Frankie A. get beat out? Occasionally, I glance at the TV while strolling through the living room. Every once in a while I'll pause. Honestly, I didn't like any of the contestants this time around. It all seemed a little too contrived. Sort of like Annette and Frankie in “Beach Blanket Bingo” where a full scale orchestrated big-bands-era band found its way on the beach and all those peole just happen to be all dressed up and “Aquanetted” to the hilt. But that's just my opinion as I glanced at the tube and wondered, “Where did all that sand go?” Guess Simon has it all in his craw, you think?

Shouldn’t he have written, “The quirky couple… was portrayed by…” ? F*ck self-loathing homophobia controversies, what about the grammar issue?

Water, lots and lots of water… Hangovers are caused from dehydration. Take an Aleve or some sort of painkiller for the headache and rehydrate your body.
