Michigan Beach Wedding Locations?

by admin on March 7, 2010

I am getting married in just under 15 months and my fiance and I both want a beach wedding. Literally on the beach. Barefeet, sand between your toes, breeze off the lake, all that goodness. We want the entire ceremony on a good sized beach; aisle, guests, walk way to ceremony site, all of it on the sand. Problem is that we have no idea how to find a place that actually has a beach where we can have the wedding. We want it to be in the North-Western section of Michigan. Petosky, Charlevoix, Traverse City, Bay Harbor, Sutton Bay, St. Ignace, possible Lake Leleenau and anywhere in between except Mackinac Island. (Mackinaw is a little overplayed for weddings and doesn’t hold any meaning to us.) Any of those other places along that stretch of coast hold special meanings to both of us. It doesn’t really matter which area we go because that general area is close to our hearts. However, the task of finding places that actually hold the ceremony on the beach is proving to be much harder that I thought it would. I cannot even seem to find websites online for places that offer literal beach ceremonies. Does anyone know any good places or websites that list North-western Michigan BEACH wedding locations. Phone numbers, websites, nicer hotels or inns, etc. are welcome. We are looking at no more than 60 guests tops so any size venue will pretty much be workable. Thanks!
I live in Michigan so I know the laws, the good and the bad about the beaches and have personally been to the above mentioned locations at least once every year and a half (closer to every year). I know the rules of the places very well considering I have lived directly in those towns. I have never lived directly near their beaches however, and therefore don’t really know where to hold a beach wedding. I know they have them all the time because when I lived there I would run into bachelor/ette parties and wedding celebration dinners frequently. I just don’t know where I would go or what I would do to help me find a location.

Honestly is there a information center? They would have the best information to give, I know that sounds ridiculous, but they know the laws, ect it would be your best shot

Northwest michigan is a great place to do a beach wedding. If the weather’s right, it’s absolutely gorgeous. You can do a beach wedding on any public access beach. You might need a permit for city parks, etc, but that shouldn’t be too hard to get. Anywhere along the lakeshore is going to be great for a wedding, but you want to make sure that it’s a short walk from the parking area to where your wedding will be. You’ll also need to find an officiant who will do beach weddings.

Grand Rapidians know that one can get plenty of culture at Festival every year downtown. Or there's always the Festival of the Arts in Ann Arbor. Or go north to Sutton's Bay and Leelanau County. And Michael Moore has just made his offices permanant in Traverse City, putting on the Summer Film Festival in July (I think it's July). I doubt it's what it used to be when I was a kid, but there's the Renaissance Center in Detroit, or Greenfield Village.

Of course, one has to leave Michigan to get even better culture. But…isn't that way better than turning idolatrous?

I visit Big Al in Traverse City from South Bend IN. He lives on Silver Lake and I love getting away from the slum that is South Bend and visiting the cherry capital of the world. Your downtown is great, your microbrews rule. That is all.

[...] In no way do I advocate exploitation, traffiking, prostitution or anything of the like. In “> Eric’s blog about traffiking I too was shocked to learn that only 15 months ago was legislation passed to regulate exploitation. More time and more funding need to be put into the effort. [...]

We recently returned from Puerto Vallarta and a stay at the beautiful Riu Palace Pacifico Resort to look at possible wedding locations for our clients. This resort is so lovely and we were upgraded to an Oceanview Junior Suite. The white sand beach is incredible and the service is non-stop. We ate at several of the gourmet restaurants here and the food was always hot and delicious. The lobby is very elegant and furnished all in marble. I have my own photos if someone would like to see them and I would return to this great resort in a minute.

The Master!

This is a wedding celebration at best. Wedding Celebration in the real sense of the word and meaning – both contextually and literally. You did it Morwa.

If you could know – I so essentially treasure the experience I had. And it blesses me most to learn that I was part-and-parcel of such a success.

The prayer of my heart is that you guys; may your marriage be as joyous as your wedding celebration was. As you grow old together – by the mercy of God – may you equally grow closer, together ahead and together grow in-one-another.

As more than half of human species believes less in marriage; may yours prove the opposite.

Together with you, I have full faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, that when the world is daily jotting down stats on divorce rate, may it always get frustrated by the difference your marriage shall always be presenting.

Bless You Guys, Always!

Madimetja.
